This evening when Mommy and Daddy were out at dinner, and Willa was at a birthday party, and Emma was eating dinner at the piano bench, I needed to mop the dining room floor. After Seth and I cleared all the chairs (that's why Emma ate at the piano bench) out of the dining room, I scooted the table to the side of the room. Seth got very emotional about it, saying that it needed to be "here." I gave him a grilled cheese to eat in his high chair, which had to be in the dining room, he didn't want it in the living room where all the other chairs were, while I swept the floor. Elsie kept picking up stray licorice pieces from the dirt pile and eating them-- along with jelly beans and pennies. After rounding up the mop and bucket and filling it up, I started to mop the floor. Elsie loved the bucket of water-- she went into the kitchen, pulled out a couple of cups, and then dunked them into the water. Later on she was bobbing her real sippy cup in the water. She also got her socks all wet from walking on the wet floor. The whole time I was explaining to Seth why he shouldn't be upset about the table not being in the right place and YES I will put it back when I'm done. Sometimes Elsie begged to be picked up, so I mopped with one hand. Othertimes she was performing for Emma to get a piece of watermelon, and I got to scrub harder. I love experiences like these. They teach me skills I may need as a mother one day. They teach me to be more efficient. To be a better multi-tasker. To think faster. I love cleaning while babysitting.
Oh, and when Mommy and Daddy pulled in the driveway, they found Emma standing on a watermelon rind in a puddle in the middle of the driveway chewing gum. Right.
