Europe Trip Pictures: #3

Day Three of our trip was Wednesday. We walked the 5 blocks to the Eiffel Tower from our hotel and purchased all day bus passes that weren't only land buses, but the canal buses, too!

The buses were double-decker, so it was quite windy! The driver gave us ear buds to listen to commentary on the sights we passed-- it was so helpful!

I'm sure the "bus" told us what this was... but I forget. :-)

Nearly every window in Paris had one of these iron things on them-- they were so much fun!

There were gold statues everywhere!

This was a column in the square where Marie Antoinette was beheaded.

Zee French flag...

Statue of some guy on the side of the Louvre...

Inside the Louvre at a...

...Crepe stand! See the tower of Nutella behind Grand Jean? We discovered that they don't eat Peanut Butter over there-- It's all Nutella!

'Twas quite yummy.

We only ate lunch in the Louvre, then headed back out on the Bus...

Yours Truly in front of Notre Dame.
The ever-famous self-portrait.

Yet more...

Grand Jean and me.

Spike in the rain gutter's mouth... I thought it would look rather silly, and it turns out it does, just a different form of the word.

Lots and lots of people were depicted on the exterior of the building.

Some of these guys lost their heads over the years. :-)

Souvenir shops along the other side of the street.

Me in front of the other side of Notre Dame.

Grand Dude and Grand Jean.

The portraits continue...

This guy was so funny!

A wooden model of Notre Dame inside the Cathedral itself.

Inside. I have a TON more pictures of the inside of Notre Dame if anybody wants to see more. Just e-mail me.

The door.
We walked from Notre Dame to Saint Chapelle, stopping on the way in little shops.

One shop had beautiful orchids!

and so unusual!

There were also these hand washing station things. It felt good to splash cool water on my face during the hot day!

Inside Saint Chapelle. To get to the large room we had to walk up (and then down) a spiral stone staircase. I wished I had on a princess dress!

The main chapel room in SC. Only the King and his family were allowed in here.

Going back down...

In the commoner's room. That's where they could worship and were taught by a priest.

Grand Jean and I came out from shopping... and found this. :-)

A lot of the churches we visited had random pieces of their architecture sitting in piles. ??

Looking out over the Seine.

Random dude on the side of a bridge... :-)

Walking under a bridge on the Seine.

Grand Dude.

Me.

Notre Dame.

Random squiggly stuff.

Boat.

The boat we boarded.

Me and Grand Jean.

Another boat.

Looking out at the sights.

Grand Jean.

Oh, now I thought this was interesting. It appeared that the scaffolding was being supported from the top.

Yep. And Notre Dam in the background, too.

Fun shot of Notre Dame.

LOTS AND LOTS OF BRIDGES!

I think that this is the Musee' D' Orsay, but I'm not positive.

Fancier bridge.

And another bridge.

The Tower itself.

The tower from the canal boat.

Back on the bus!

With the setting sun.

Me and Grand Dude.

That building I couldn't name again.

Cannon in front of another name-less (or name-forgotten) building.

On a bridge on a bus over the Seine.

A statue of either Robert Louis Stevenson or Winston Churchhill... :-) It was at the same place as "The Thinker"

Ooops, this goes up^ with the Notre Dame pics...

These were from the square where Marie Antoinette was beheaded, as previously mentioned.

uh huh.

I believe that's the Louvre.

The 80's addition to the Louvre.

In front of the Louvre as the sun was setting.

She's kind of hard to see, but there was a model in a really pretty dress modeling for cameras in front of the Louvre.

Sorry, I don't know what this arc is called. It's in the courtyard of the Louvre.

There were bike lanes everywhere.

A large statue with people crowded around. Yet again, I've forgotten...

More Notre Dame, this time from bus. I have pictures from foot, boat, and bus! :-)

Random statue of Thomas Jefferson.

The "square" of Marie again. It has a real name, but, you guessed it. I forgot it.

ohhhhh.... okay. So we thought that the bus would take us all the way back to the Eiffel tower stop.... but it didn't, and we had to find our own way all the way across Paris. :-) We choose the Subway.

That's the subway map behind me. I got to be quite the pro at deciphering it by the end of the trip! :-)

My purchases from the day. They wrapped everything so nicely.

My really yummy chicken and cheese panini we grabbed for dinner on our way back from the Tower. LOVED IT!

I hope you enjoyed these thousands of pictures! I know it's been a long time coming. Sorry, and feel free to ask questions, or answer mine! :-)

Fun, fun! I'm pretty sure that that statue was of Winston Churchill, though...because Stevenson was really tall and skinny. :-)And why on earth was there a statue of Thomas Jefferson in Paris?

:) Olivia you look so beautiful in all those pictures! And Hannah, read John Adams by David McCullough if you want to know why there would be a statue of Thomas Jefferson in Paris! :)

Thanks for posting, Olivia!

Love,
